Armelle Mecat

Armelle Mercat is a French animation director and illustrator, born in 1985. She always enjoyed to draw and tell stories. Her studies at the Orléans Visual Art Institute/ “l’Institut d’arts visuels á Orléans”, and the exchange semester at the Maryland Institute College of Art at Baltimore – “MICA” (USA) give her an opportunity to discover engraving, graphic design, illustration and animation. In 2010, she enrolls in “La Poudrière” School of Directing Animation/ “La Poudrière École du film d’animation” (France). After receiving the diploma in 2012, she continues her path in drawing, creating travel-sketchbooks, illustrations and working in animation. After taking part in the creation of several short animation films (“Beach Flags”, by Sarah Saïdan, “My Home”/ “Chez moi”, by Phuong Mai Nguyen, and “Yùl and the Snake”/ “Yùl et le serpent”, by Gabriel Harel), Armelle participates in the TV series project “Les Grandes Grandes Vacances”/ “The Long Long Holiday” (2014). In 2016/2017, Armelle directs her short animation film, “Keep your hair on, Olivier”, made in traditional animation technique, using watercolour. In the film, she continues to investigate the theme she raised in her graduation film, “My God!”/ “Sacrebleu!” (“La Poudrière”, 2012): a man struggling with his imaginary problems.
